The DuSable Museum, which preserves and interprets the historical experiences and achievements of African Americans, was the first museum of its kind in the US. Located in Washington Park near the University of Chicago, the museum is named after Jean Baptiste Pointe DuSable, a Haitian fur trader who was the first permanent settler in Chicago.

Hours:

  • Tues-Sat 10am-5pm
  • Sun 12pm-5pm
  • Closed Mondays between June 1 and Jan. 2 (except for school holidays)
